Hi,
My husband and I will be moving to the Lehigh Valley this summer. We have plans of starting a family soon. We've been looking for a 3 bedroom rental home/apt/townhome. Can anyone please suggest some nice and safe neighbourhoods/areas to live? Something so that we can reach Bethlehem area within 20 mins at least.
Thanks a lot for your help in advance!

Look around the area of Liberty High School in Bethlehem, several blocks in all directions. Its been awhile since we lived there, but I remember it as being nice and convenient

Not knowing what your price range is, I would suggest, Bethlehem Township, Hanover Township or the North side of Bethlehem good luck with your search

I think renting before buying is a great idea. Since you don't have kids yet, I would go with Valentine's suggestion. I don't think the area around Liberty HS is that great, but I could be wrong.

My wife and I moved to the LV (with our then-2-year-old daughter) a year ago, and like you, didn't have a frame of reference or any connections on where to live. We ended up in Emmaus, which has the feel of a quaint, family-oriented community but (as I've posted elsewhere) seems to be declining. I work in Bethlehem and have about a 25-minute commute each way to my job. When I was looking for housing for us, I looked at several places in the Bethlehem neighborhoods being described and was very unimpressed with condition, quality and price (we were also looking for a 3-bdrm, by the way). We ended up renting a house with a yard in Emmaus but there aren't many such rentals down here, sad to say. However, troll Craigslist long enough and you might find something. I would also recommend townhouses, of which the western part of the Valley has many. Often those (the newer ones, anyway) are family-friendly and in decent condition. However, the further west you go the further from Bethlehem you'll be, but even adding 5 minutes to a commute might mean a more peaceful standard of living. Good luck - don't know where you're coming from, but living here has been a mixed bag for us - we've met some wonderful people, but really don't feel like the LV has a lot going for it. People who grew up here, though, seem to feel otherwise, so it's all in your perspective. You will find most of the people to be very friendly and approachable, even if many of them are "lifers" and so already have social circles in place. I'm blessed with a wife who works hard to make friends, which has worked out very well for us.

The Lehigh Valley is an excellent area. I attended middle and high school there. I lived in Whitehall. It's a great, clean town with lovely people. Very nice homes and a great place to raise kids. The Red Clay school district is great, looking back I am very impressed with the education system there and the educators. And, it wasn't long ago at all, I graduated in 2006.

Hope you consider Whitehall!

Ha. I looked at that a couple times and thought, hmm, maybe a new charter school.
