I have lived in many different cities in my young life from large cities like Chicago to midsized ones like Indianapolis and Louisville where I currently reside. I have a job offer that is going to be hard to refuse at St Luke's hospital. That said, how is Bethelehem for a single guy in his late 20's who is very social? Are there strips of bars? Diverse restaurants from Vietnamese to Thai to African? Is it conservative or liberal? Is there at least one bohemian older part of town where younger people live? Is it walkable? How much for a 1000 sf apartment/condo in this bohemian part of town (if it exists) How about Allentown or surrounding towns? Please help as I know nothing about this area other than being close to the megalopolis. In reality, how far to Manhattan and downtown Philly (ie with traffic)? Any help is greatly appreciated!

I'm sorry but I had to laugh a bit to myself reading your post. Nope, no strips of bars, or lots of ethnic restaurants. There are certainly bars and ethnic restaurants, but this is not NYC. It's a city of around 75,000. Here's the demographics according to city-data //www.city-data.com/city/Bethle...nsylvania.html There are two down-town areas to Bethlehem. One near Moravian College and the more upscale bars and restaurants and the Southside, close to Lehigh University. Bethlehem is definitely better then Allentown.

It's about an hour and a half to NYC and about an hour to Philadelphia. No rail service. There are two bus services that can get you to either place easily.

please come and do not let these negative doomsayers discourage you. The negativity is what has always been a problem here, but things are changing. The Southside of Bethlehem is where you want to be. The Your Welcome Inn, JP Mcgradys, The Tally Ho, and the Funhouse are waiting. There is a casino up the street, and up the hill there is indeed a strip club called Glow. I'll be waiting for you at the bar. As far as restaurants there is Nawab, The Blue Sky, Tai Kitchen and others. Come on!

Louisville is the home of one of the finest bands in America today! My Morning Jacket! Plent of fans around here. Hang out at the Funhouse. You'll be fine! These whiners are out of touch and frankly irrelevant!i

Hey, I really, really like Bethlehem but did you read what the OP asked about?

I said that there were ethnic restaurants and bars, and there are, just not several. I like Bethlehem and always recommend it for single people as the best place in the area.
