I snapped this with my phone from inside the truck, so it's not the best quality, but hopefully you can see from this:

Good grief.....you make it sound like you had to cross Niagra!!! The ford is not deep, Jordon Creek is not raging. For many people, driving up the hills and through the preserve and then back down and through the ford is a highlight of their visit to the Lehigh Valley Zoo. On your way up the hill towards the zoo if you pay attention you may see some whitetail deer, woodchucks, many birds, etc. On the way out you'll see a herd of elk and a herd of bison which are owned by the county and are not officially a part of the zoo itself. There is also a beautiful spot at the very top of the hill when you are leaving where you can look down and see the whole zoo in the little valley. It is really quite beautiful. If one does not wish to exit the zoo by driving over the ford.....or, if the ford crossing is closed....which it is every now and then during very heavy rains and spring thaw (it is marked when it is closed)....then you just follow the exit sign to the automatic gate and it puts you directly onto Game Preserve Road. And on the right is a wonderful old covered bridge.

Great picture Karen! I think I just have too much of an imagination. When I saw that for the first time, I immediately thought of newspaper reports of cars being swept away when drivers tried to cross roads they thought were just mildly flooded and then being swept down stream. Of course, out loud, with children in the car all I said was,"oh, look at that!" Or something along those lines. I think it's just very unusual these days to have a crossing like that allowed - but I'm glad it is.

Ever since I was a little boy I've gone to Trexlertown Game Preserve and I always thought the drive up to the zoo and out were just as fun as seeing the animals. It is also a nice place to have a picnic with the family and take a dip in the Jordan Creek. I also saw in the newspaper that they just opened their penguin exhibit, which hopefully will bring in some much needed revenue.

I honestly wouldn't have had a problem if there were only SIGNS telling you the way out! Seriously, I had to call the zoo twice from the parking lot because I could not find a sign. They need better signs which actually tell you that you need to drive over the water.

This is how I eventually got out, but I am telling you there were no signs there either. The woman on the phone had to tell me to drive up to the white line and then the gate would open. Again, no signs...
