The Lehigh Valley, also known as the Allentown-Bethlehem-Easton, PA-NJ metropolitan area and referred to locally as The Valley, is an official metropolitan
region consisting of Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties in eastern Pennsylvania and Warren county on the western edge of New Jersey, in the United
States.

The Lehigh Valley is the third most populous region of Pennsylvania, following metropolitan Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. The region is named for the Lehigh
River, which runs through it. It is part of the Great Appalachian Valley.

More information and list of towns located in Lehigh Valley can be located here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lehigh_Valley

Also charter schools are not listed by district because they take students from OUT of the district they dwell in. However, most charters in our area tend to take more students from where they are located then outside and will actually limit the number for students from outside of their home district.

Internet information. Because we're not served by the mega-huge companies like Comcast or Time Warner Cable, it's important for newcomers to know about the many different internet service providers. Many older developments or areas of towns are served by very small companies like Ironton Telephone Company, Palmerton Telephone Company, Frontier, etc and often there is no choice besides that small company or a dish. Here are some pieces of information that I'm pulling from this thread: //www.city-data.com/forum/lehig...bout-lv-2.html And you can read more there and on this new thread, which I'll stick up here once it's done //www.city-data.com/forum/lehig...h-valley.html: Thanks to PacoMartin and Mrknowitall526 for their expertise.

From PacoMartin:
Quote:
RCN can be very slow at times. RCN advertises download speeds up to 25 Mbps / upload speeds up to 4 Mbps. RCN charges $39.99/$49.99/$59.99/ for the first three years. They throw in local TV stations for only the cost of the equipment that can receive the signal (at least $10/month for one TV).

A few days ago download speeds were under 3 Mbps.

SECTV advertises top tier $44.95 download speeds up to 25 Mbps / upload speeds up to 1 Mbps. But there is a $10 surcharge if you are not buying TV from them,

I think the phrase "up to" is significant. I know in the UK internet providers can list a speed that only 10% of their customers receive reliably.

RCN' brand new tier advertises download speeds up to 110 Mbps / upload speeds up to 15 Mbps. RCN charges $49.99/$59.99/$69.99/ for the first three years (but I suspect that this rate will increase soon).

Either way none of them have upload speeds that are offered by FIOS.

Most casual users are more concerned with download speed. Heavy bloggers and people who post a lot of videos care about upload speed. Verizon is bombarding consumers with advertisements telling them to feel bad about themselves if they have upload speeds of cable.
More from PacoMartin:

Although LV is in Philadelphia Designated Marketing Area it is often difficult to impossible to tune in Philadelphia stations with an antenna with exception of Fox Philly unless you are south of mountains (near Quakertown).
