I am moving to the Allentown area soon and would like your opinion of the Whitehall-Coplay school district. I have done my homework online with Greatschools and School Matters and I know there are schools nearby with better scores but I'd like to hear from anyone that would care to comment. Can you tell me how their special education department is?
Thanks

IMHO, Great schools is just a gossip website, not based in facts at all, just opinions. School matters is fine. In the area Whitehall-Coplay has a middle of the road reputation, not bad, not the best. Have you visited and talked to the Special services director? If you already have an IEP for your child, you can probably find out how they can best help you.

Hi Toobusy....
Thank you for your input, you always have good information IMO. My problem is, I must find a rental property first and then deal with enrolling my daughter in school. I'm visiting the area on Saturday and I pray that I find suitable housing ASAP because my house is SOLD here and I have 30 days to get out!!! Thank God for the internet, I have done so much research online. I will keep you posted and thanks again for your opinion.

Default not too bad

My daughter goes to Whitehall-Coplay school district , just finished 2nd grade.
The school she goes to, Steckel Elem, is great. Reallly good teachers, and she improved on her state assessments a lot.

The school is beautiful

On another note, I teach in allentown school district, special ed.
I applied to Whitehall for the two positions that were open in my area last year.
That is opposed to the 30-40 open in allentown.

Usually if teachers don't leave, it means the school system is good.
Just my Opinion, though

Thanks for your input. I am in the process of moving to the area in 2 weeks and I have decided to rent a house in the E. Penn SD.

Good timing, just before school starts! We moved at the very end of August 12 year ago and although it was stressful, it worked out just fine. Have a safe move! I hope you love the area as much as we do.
