We both lived in NYC for a time, then suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland and Rochester.

I am drawn to the area of Pennsylvania that is south of Scranton, North of Philadelphia, and east of 81 (from visiting during various family vacations).

I want to be within:
3 hours of NYC
2 hours of Newark NJ
1 hour of skiing and/or summer water activities (to ensure the kids will come visit!)
30 minutes of a Jewish community ((I understand there's an active JCC in West Allentown?)

My husband and I work from home, and will not be interested in schools or finding employment.
We are home-bodies and tend not to socialize.

I do not want a traditional suburban neighborhood.

I want the feel of a retirement house, or being in the woods, on or near a lake.
A four-season vacation home with an open contemporary floorplan.

I expect we'll budget $250-$300k and get as much house as we can for that (with a minimum of 3 bedrooms on the ground floor).

Can anyone suggest what towns, counties or boroughs I should look at?

look in the Bloomsburg,PA area there are plenty of homes in that area that might meet your criteria and it is close to the river and you can get to the areas pretty easy since I-80 goes right by that area and the homes can be very affordable this is what you can get for that price Bloomsburg real estate & Bloomsburg homes for sale | Single family homes,Condos,Townhomes,Co-ops,3 Bedrooms - REALTOR.com® .
