My husband and I will be relocating to the Lehigh Valley sometime this year (that's the plan anyway). My husband is retiring (we are both in our late 50's), and I was wondering where I would be able to attend a one-year veterinary assistant certificate program. I'm thinking of doing that part-time after we move. Should I not even think I can get a job as a veterinary assistant at my age? I know it's discrimination to not hire someone because of age, but I know discrimination happens. Any suggestions? Thanks much.

Hi! I know that Northampton Community College has a veterinary technician program, as does Lehigh Carbon Community College. However, I believe they are full two-yr Associate degree program with a few prerequisites for admission.

As far as employment, well that can be tricky, and not just due to age. There seem to be so many people around here competing for so few good jobs. Hopefully that changes.

The vet tech program at the community colleges, from my understanding, is taught concurrently at both colleges - labs at LCCC but classes at whatever college you enroll in.

I also have no idea about employment prospects but I've heard this program is competitive to get into.
