I'm possibly moving to Bethlehem in the very near future. I'm 24, single, white, active, straight, and would like to be near others in the same demographic. Can anyone recommend which areas of Bethlehem might suit me well? Where is the nightlife? Would it be a good idea to live near those areas? Thanks!

I was 24 when i moved here 6 years ago.

Your two choices are the downtown/historic district and south side. The historic district is easily walkable from bars like brew works, machs gut, and the trendy restaurants like apollo, edge, starfish, etc. There are many 1br apartments around that fit your profile well, although most are older buildings. You can also walk to these from 1st through 5th ave just over 378. It is trendy and safe.

South side has a lot of nightlife, with starters riverport being the most popular. Plus there is the casino, mcgrady's, the 'ho, firehouse, etc. Trouble with southside is the crime, lack of parking, lower quality units, and competition with the lehigh students. I suggest the historic district.

Avoid the phony trendy bars. What happened to Machs Gute is a travesty. That was a legendary dive until they classed it up. I encourage you to visit the dives like the Your Welcome Inn and the Tap Tavern where real people go. Sit next to crotchedy old men and sometimes a nice, low maintenance, unpretentious woman while Cash plays on the jukebox. Follow my advice and your life will be much better.

i would reccomend the downtown historic district, beautiful place to be, and great downtown for a city of it's size, the university brings about many college kids, and maintains a nice and progressive feel.

Thanks. I checked out the downtown Bethlehem area today, and it looked like somewhere I can see myself. I imagine it would be even nicer when the weather is better too.

I visited the historic district/sand island over the summer and loved it. Also, its a shame Easton has so many problems because I would move there in a heartbeat if it ever improved, I loved the feel and look of the city. Similar to Bethlehem but with the center square as a main focus. The only problem is I don't feel safe there even during the day... too many random people hanging out on the corners. I dont feel that when walking around Bethlehem , at least not on the north side or in parts of fountain hill

Thanks for your help everyone. I ended up signing a lease for a Riverport condo today. I'd like to buy a house soon, but this will give me some time to get to know people and figure out where I'd like to eventually buy a place.
