Would it be wise to move here first? Currently, I'm a recent University graduate living in Long Island looking for employment off the island that might utilize my double majors of economics/mathematics (not picky about what I have to do either). I'm having difficulty getting any response at all from my PA job applications and think it might be easier to have a PA residence first.

I have enough money in savings to be able to afford a cheap room somewhere for up to 6 months or so while I look for a job. In fact, I notice the Rodeway Inn in Allentown has rental rooms for longer-term occupancy going for around $400 a month which is great.

Does this sound plausible in today's heinous job market? In other words, is there any opportunity in Lehigh Valley for someone like myself?

As long as you are available for interviews, I don't think a local address is going to make that much of a difference. I would never recommend someone move permanently without a job, but I guess you could try it for a month. Not sure where the Rodeway is - hope it's in a safe part of town.

If I'm not mistaken, the Rodeway is the old Days Inn at the intersection of Rts. 309 and 22. Not a bad part of town at all, but the hotel might attract a "rougher" transient crowd. Look at the rooms before you decide to rent, last I was in there that place was pretty run down. Probably why it's not a Days Inn anymore.

I will be totally honest.... it takes about 3 to 4 months of all day searching to find a job here. I searched high and low to find the right job. Try checking out Lehigh Valley Jobs

it hasnt been updated in a while but the links to HR homepages on the right are a great help

I think the job market is pretty good in the Lehigh Valley. Also, remember that a lot of people commute to NJ for work. I also know a few people from Quakertown that work in Philadelphia and I've heard of some crazy people actually driving into NYC, which would be insane in my opinion. As long as you have a car and a place to stay, then you'll find a job fairly easily. And if the Rodeway is at 22/309, then that's a good location. Just to let you know, a 1BR in a decent area would cost probably at least $750 a month. Anything less than $700 a month for a 1BR and you're probably looking at a dump. Also, you can try Easton. Easton is a rough area, but they have a few apt complexes that aren't terrible and their rents are usually cheaper than Bethlehem or Allentown. Also, it is very easy to get into NJ from 22 or 78 if you're in Easton since there is a nasty traffic jam in the morning on 22 right around airport road.
