My DH and 5 year old will be traveling to Whitehall to see his greatgrandfather for the last time. We need suggestions for a hotel/motel in a safe area not too far from Whitehall. I've been reading here that Allentown is pretty much to be avoided.

Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

I can't think of any place in Whitehall, but this place Comfort Suites Allentown (Allentown, PA) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor seems very nice. It's in West Allentown, on Hamilton boulevard, across from Dorney park and minutes from Routes 309, Route 78, the turnpike and Route 22. There are some good restaurants right there too. At this time of year you won't have any trouble with traffic either. Very safe and outside of center city Allentown.

Just off Airport Road @ Rt. 22 there are several hotels from the Marriott chain -Fairfield Inn, Marriott Courtyard and something else, all right next to each other. There is a Sheraton Four Points hotel just across from the airport on Airport Rd. north of Rt. 22. Also a fairly new Holiday Inn Express on Schoenersville Rd. in Bethlehem north of Rt. 22.

I would avoid the Holiday Inn in downtown Allentown as well as the few roach motels near Rt. 145 in Whitehall.

Good suggestions too. I would suggest that if you are coming in from the East that you go with John's choices, and if you are coming in from the West, you go with mine.

Scottish Inn on Catasauqua Road off Airport in Allentown. I stayed there 12 days & my husband 30 days when we were in the process of relocating to the Lehigh Valley area. It's not the Sheraton but the prices were reasonable, it was newly renovated & clean. Also, the Bethlehem Diner & Denny's are literally within walking distance . Probably only 15 min from Whitehall.

Thumbs down There are NO safe areas of the Lehigh Valley anymore

There are NO safe areas of the Lehigh Valley anymore. Get a police band scanner, there are Armed Robberies daily in Allentown and Whitehall.

It is NOT safe to walk downtown anymore, every late afternoon this week someone has been armed robbed on a Allentown or Whitehall Street.

This morning a family came out of the Valley Farm Market on Emmaus Avenue and their car was stolen while they were shopping.

Todays paper has a Jesse James Riddick who armed robbed a Gas Station in Whitehall and Allentown on the same day this week.

Mall shoppers must be extremely careful in the Mall Parking lots, a few years ago a teacher and mother was shot to death at Christmas by two felons who wanted her car. Weekly people are victims of some kind of crime at the malls now.
