Hi All,
I have a step-daughter who will be turning twelve at the beginning of the summer and going into 7th grade in the fall. I am looking for recommendations as to camps or volunteer opportunities to get her involved in over the summer...she is more arts than sports oriented, so I've had her in some of the Banana Factory's weeklong camps and she has done Baum, but now I am looking to get her into something that will occupy more of her time and give her more of a sense of involvement. It doesn't have to be an arts related program either. She loves younger kids, and she might benefit from volunteering with them...she also might benefit from a summer camp experience and the opportunity to spend time with friends every single day, rather than sporadically. We live in Southern Lehigh School District and her mom lives in Quakertown, so I am looking for opportunities that won't be too far out of mom's way, because I am afraid that if she deems it too much of a burden, we won't see follow-through on her end. I really look forward to your suggestions.

I'm also in Southern Lehigh. One camp that I know kids go to is Camp Men-O-Lan over by Trumbauersville. Camp Men-o-lan I think a lot of the kids that are involved with the Bible Fellowship youths groups go there. We belong to a different church but one of my kids liked their youth group when she was that age. I don't know of any camps where a child younger then 10th grade can be a counselor in training.

I think Flint Hill Farms Flint Hill Farm Agricultural Education Center (http://www.flinthill-farm.org/camp.html - broken link) has a camp too. There are usually brochures at the library too Southern Lehigh Public Library, Center Valley, PA for area camps and events.
