Hi all,

I was recently accepted into an instructor position at Northampton College and relocating from Florida with my wife and two children to Bethlehem. The unemployment here is 16% and the education system is severely lacking (Florida ranked 49th two years ago). We will be moving in the next couple of months.

First of all, where are the good schools?

Secondly (and related to the first question), where is a decent side of town to live (family-oriented and in the country)?

Third, what kind of rent would we be expected to pay for a 3 br 2 bath home .25 acre(no apartment)?

Lastly, our last name is Wiseman . . . we are returning to Bethlehem . . .

Thanks,

Kevin

Slowcala,
Sorry for not replying sooner. NCC is a great little college. Congratulations on your new position!

First off, I would suggest looking around this forum a little bit and perusing a map to acquaint yourself with the towns surrounding NCC to see how far you would be willing to commute. NCC itself is in a nice residential area in Northhampton County, but I believe you would be in Bethlehem area school district. Many people are satisified with schools in that district, but if you are not used to city schools, you may want to look at the smaller towns surrounding Bethlehem such as Saucon Valley or Nazareth. Make sure to look at the High Schools. Elementary schools are generally good, but HS is where it counts.

You can compare any of the schools and school districts on these websites: SchoolMatters (http://www.schoolmatters.com/ - broken link) or Pennsylvania Schools - Find a Public or Private Pennsylvania School - SchoolDigger.com

I am sure anywhere in the Lehigh Valley area is better than Fl & especially better than South FL I am in the West palm Beach area, the schools are rotten & crime in the schools are high.
I actually am looking to relocate to the Bethlehem/allentown,hellertown area.
