Is kindergarten full day or half day here? Specifically Calypso school.

I don't know of any public school that has full day kindergarten around here. But then again, we didn't look at all of the districts, so I guess there may be one or two that do. I understand why it would be good but it's a big deal to implement due to staffing issues, space and a whole re-do of the curriculum. I'm sure there are private schools that offer it.

I didn't even think to check before we moved. We're from New Jersey originally, and moved here from NC. Where I lined in NJ we had full day, same with NC. I just thought kindergarten was full day nation wide.
My concern now is that my oldest has been in half day PreK since he was 3. He knows all of his letters and letter sounds, can do basic math etc. but he had a speech delay and gets speech classes (well got in PreK) through school. So in a half day I can't imagine what he can learn and what will be skipped for speech

Most kids do pre-school half day starting at age two around here so I don't think there will be too much of a difference. Kindergarten is more like first grade used to be when I was a child. Most start off knowing everything you've mentioned and are reading by Christmas. Services start for special needs even in pre-school if it's recommended and pull out special needs kids will happen in kindergarten.

No, actually I didn't check registration. I plan on calling the school today. Hopefully registration will be squared away today, or early next week. Thank you for the link, I'm going to take a look at it now!

Just read your link. Thankfully he won't need to be evaluated again untill January, unless of course the school would like to. He has an IEP which I'm sure carries over from his last school. He has an articulation problem at this point. He just can't make certain letter sounds in the beginning of some words and the end of others. I'm going to see his new doctor here on Monday. I'm hoping to have him receive his speech help outside of school as to not take away any of his learning time and also so he doesn't feel singled out (depending on how it's handled in public school).

The pull-outs (at least in my school district's) are very discreet and casual. Kids are pulled out for all kinds of reasons - gifted, music, reading enrichment, math enrichment, etc. My youngest had an IEP for two years for a speech problem and it was handled very easily. You should get in touch with these people

How is your youngest with his/her speech now? If you don't mind me asking, what problem did she have with speech?
