-Where you are working
I will be attending UK and receiving substantial financial aid and scholarships

-How much you are willing to spend on housing
I'm looking for a 3 bedroom split 3 ways of an amount that can't cost more than $700 per person after utilities and groceries, and would preferably be no more than $500 per person after utilities and groceries

-How long of a commute you're willing to tolerate
Preferably close enough to use alternate transportation, like walking or taking a bus to UK, but I'm flexible

-What type of neighborhood environment you are looking for: small town feeling? small city excitement? suburbia delight?
I would much prefer not to be located in such a way as to be constantly exposed to inebriated partygoers, but that's secondary to price and safety

-Community amenities important to you
Not really a community amenity, but a washer/dryer included would be extremely helpful, especially if the place is pushing the budget. Also, small dogs must be allowed.

-Pie or cake?
Hmm... I suppose I'd go with pie.

We're going tomorrow to see what there is, as we live in a nearby city, so it's no big deal to drop in and look, but not having been there much myself aside from brief shopping excursions for things not found in my city, I'm not familiar with the neighborhoods, price ranges, crime rates, etc.

For what you want, any of the apartment complexes along Red Mile sound perfect. A lot of students live there and take Lextran to campus. It's also walkable but I wouldn't recommend it in the heat of summer or freezing winter.

Steer clear of Royal Lexington or any apartments right next to campus, as those are full of "inebriated partygoers."

Well, we've been pared down to 2 people now, but that's for the best as it's better to lose somebody now than a month or two down the line. I'm not really interested in Red Mile, due to its "by the bed" set-up which is unsuitable for my situation. We're also housing a friend of our who needs a place to stay, as he has a medical condition that prevents him from holding down a stable job or reliably attending class. He plans on freelancing his various computer skills to help minimize his impact on us financially, but he will not be contributing an equal share each month. For this reason, we need a place where two people can share a room at no additional cost. We also still need a place that would allow one small dog.

It looks like I may be able to have a car ready, so location is a bit less important. Also, with losing one of the paying participants, we are now only looking for 2 bedroom places within $700 per month.

I've seen a place called Fayette Crossing coming up a lot, how is it? I've been reading deeply into it and it would seem that they're trying to raise their reputation following a poor management, can anybody confirm/deny/add to that?

Avoid anything NEAR Red Mile unless you enjoy rape, burglary, and muggings. I recommend Chinoe Creek apts., some of the nicest in Lex for the price, with regular bus service that goes up the Tate's Creek corridor. Also walking distance to Kroger, very safe, very well kept places. a 2BR ranges below 700$/mo, sometimes as low as 600$.

I don't know anything about Fayette Crossing. If you don't mind driving, there are lots of affordable, safe apartments outside of Man of War. One I lived in was Valleyfield on Palumbo Dr. There are lots of smaller apartments with individual landlords too that will probably be cheaper, but still fairly decent if you're in that area (like around Pimlico).
