Have seen these 2 towns pop up as being close to Lexington, shops, restaurants, "walkable", and "charming".

Can anyone tell me more about them?

We are looking at a possible move to KY for retirement. Want something smallish but close to a bigger city, safe, with shops/restuarants, and some things going on - festivals, etc.

Berea is kind of the artsy place of Kentucky. Several antique stores, lots of bike paths and places to walk downtown and around Berea College. You may like nearby Richmond better, it has a lot more amenities but is still considered a fairly small town but it's growing fast. Richmond is closer to Lexington, only about 20 minutes away.

Georgetown or Frankfort might suit your fancy as well, perhaps Danville?

Can you still find small parcels of acerage near Danville? Someone recommended that town to me, but I have a couple of horses. By the time I retire, we're all going to be old, but I will keep them until they die.

Danville would be my choice over Berea and Richmond. It is a college town (Centre College) with charm and quaintness. It's also very "cliquish" in my opinion...certain last names mean a bunch! lol But anyone can fit in comfortably. Plenty of festivals in the town and the area. You'll find everything from small designer dress shops to Walmart!

Dreamroper, you might look in Garrard County, especially the north end of the county. Plenty of smaller parcels of land for sale and less than a 30 minute drive to the big city of Lexington.

I agree with herbgal...Danville!

Berea and Harrodsburg, when away from the charming artsy/historical (Berea) and historical (Harrodsburg) elements, are small redneck towns. Berea can even be kind of, uh, dumpy in spots.

Danville, along with Frankfort, Midway and Wilmore, are really the only towns in central KY I actually like.
