My husband has been offered a job in Somerset, Ky. He is very excited and I am ready for a change. Would love any information regarding the area. We will be moving from Pennsylvania~we have a 9 yr. old son whom is in 4th grade this yr. Would love some information on schools in the area. We would like to rent for a yr. or so, this will allow us to explore the area and make sure we pick a place we really like. Any info. to help with real-estate rentals would be great! I am a registered nurse and have been working the past 8 yrs. in the operating room. I also have several yrs. of med./surg. experience. I have looked at Lake Cumberland Hospital's website. Excited to explore Kentucky~have NEVER been there! We are very outdoorsy type people. We currently live in a very rural area~only 1 redlight. Excited to have 23 or so on main street!

In nearby London, the new St. Joseph Hospital just opened today! As far as Somerset, there's a lot of nice areas to live there. Most of which are on the SW side of town. I would recommend the Somerset Independent School district. As far as red lights, oh my there's probably over 30 just on Highway 27 alone, which is the main highway in town.

Not so familiar with housing in the area. But I know the big draw in the area is Lake Cumberland, which is huge (one of the largest man made lakes in the country, and the largest east of the Mississippi).

Lee's Ford Marina is just a 5 minute drive from the main drag and is by far the best marina on the lake. I have been to them all and none compare to Lee's Ford. There has been a new owner take over a few years ago and really made the place a nice resort, and it has probably the best restaurant in Somerset too (and the only one that serves alcohol!)
