No doubt when Alaric's Goths sacked Rome they had a similar attitude. Your reply is indicitive of the rise of self absorbtion and decline of civility in American society. People who lack manners rather than admit their coarseness say manners are no longer needed and try to make the well mannered person the oddball; an example of the Goebbels Twist. And what social critic Paul Fussel calls "proletarian drift".

Malone's is fairly fancy; waiters, tablecloths, low lighting and fairly high prices. It sure as Hell isn't a Chinese buffet. And I take my hat off in those too, anytime I'm inside actually. If I were invited to your home I'd take my hat off before entering; it's called showing respect. Those with self respect have no problem extending respect to others.

Oh my gosh Tom, what the heck are you talking about? You are way too serious. We are talking about Malone's restaurant, sheesh. I have manners, you don't know me so you have no clue. Wearing a hat in a restaurant does not mean a person doesn't have manners. If there are dress codes that's different.
