We are transferring to Lexington and I need help with good schools. We have looked for houses in Chilesburg and Wyndham Hills. The schools would be Athen-Chilesburg Elem and Henry Clay High or Piadome and Layfayette. I have children in both elementary and high. Any thoughts? Also, what about the neighborhoods? Any help is appreciated.

For public high schools, I rank Henry Clay and Paul Laurence Dunbar 1/2 or 2/1

Lafayette would be my 3 but not THAT far behind either of the two above.

Wyndam Hills is a pretty good neighborhood (although not the HC feeder) and I would 2nd the idea of it assuming you are ok with Lafayette. IMO Chilesburg sort of feels isolated as it sits close to I-75 and is a ways from downtown and other amenities (although you could get to Hamburg pretty quickly from I-75).

Are you sure the elemenetary for Chlesburg will be A.C.E.? Only one section of that area is in that district. The rest of the neighborhood goes to Breckenridge Elementary. Many agents and the public just assume that since that school is right in that neighborhood that is serves the neighborhood. Here is a tool where you can enter the street name to confirm:FCPS Street Directory.

Both areas are nice and are a safe investment. I would not go much over $250k for Chilesburg. There are a few models that can easily top $300k, and I think that most of the buyers I work with would rather be in a different neighborhood for that much money.

I don't know what is available out there right now, but Willow Oak near Wyndham Hills is very nice. I have a neighborhood review on my blog about that area.

What price range will you be looking in?
