jamplouno: Do you have a doppelganger who used to post primarily on the Kentucky forums under another name? Your background, writing style, attitudes, academic and professional goals seem very, very reminiscent of that "other" young man...

Akron
Toledo
Sioux Falls
Lincoln
Grand Rapids

There are privately owned places within walking distance to UK that are more than reasonably priced. My daughter lived off Aylesford (around Euclid) and it took her 5 minutes to get to class. She could also walk to Kroger's for groceries and there were more than plenty of places to eat. It is also in walking distance (for a grad student) to town. The buses aren't as good as a lot of large cities, but they will suffice.

Hi guys, I just found one off-campus housing from the web. It is located at Scott Street. Currently I am living abroad, so I cannot check the property by myself. Do you think the place is safe and clean? I already checked it from Googlemap and it seems pretty close to UK, but I am not sure whether the place is comfortable enough for living. Any advices would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is anybody looking for housing? I am looking for a third roommate and the rent is $535, we are equine science majors and prefer someone who is too, but we will be okay with any major, the apartment is off of transcript and has all utilities included, washer/dryer, dishwasher, AC, small dogs and cats allowed.

Chevy Chase is one of the nicer areas but the rents are pretty high between 600-700 for most place plus you pay utilities.
Around campus is also high rent for what you get(tiny studio efficiency) plus landlords that don't care about condition or safety at no extra charge. Landlords just want the money. Also be prepared for owners who won't call back and/or just tell you to go away.

Just a heads'-up: this thread began in May of 2012, over a year ago. However, the info provided here is still pretty much on target, though there are some nicer, newer apartments close to UK now, particularly along Red Mile Road and Angliana Avenue - infill for now-vanished tobacco warehouses.

The entire area around UK and the campus is nice. The entire area is fairly walkable...not walkable like Ann Arbor, Athens, or Bloomington, but there is a growing cadre of nice walkable places in and near campus.

On a recent trip to Lexvegas, I was rather impressed with the new Coba Cocina restaurant. It definitely raises the restaurant bar in town, especiallys. The best restaurant in town still is Jonathan's at Gratz Park and has been for years now.
