I'm a student from Arizona State doing a summer internship on the army base near Richmond, and I'm looking for a place to stay for only 3 months. I haven't found any apartments that do short-term leases yet, does anybody know of any?

Is the commute from Lexington to the Richmond base going to be a major hassle?

Any help is appreciated!

The commute from Richmond to Lexington is not too bad in terms of traffic delays but that's a gallon of gas gone each way. (I just finished school commuting from Lex to Richmond several days a week). Housing is a bit cheaper in Richmond but there is a good deal of shopping and restaurants down there so there's no major reason to commute.

I would check out Craiglist. Go to the Lexington page and specify Richmond on the search. There is lots of rentals down there. There are no high crime areas, some place are kind of "rednecky" or have lots of college students, but nothing too bad. Berea is also a nice option although there are fewer rentals.

I would say the lease terms vary by land lord. Most places I've rented from require a thirty day notice prior to moving. I've never had to pay the full 12 month lease if I cut it short as long as adequit notice was given

You might also see if there's anything in Berea, twelve miles away from Richmond via I-75. College towns often have more apartments available during the summer months...
