I tried doing a search, but all the threads I found on this topic are several years old, so I was hoping for some more up-to-date information.

I need to know about the Autism resources in the schools there. I have an 8 year old daughter that is autistic. Where we are new, she is in a special classroom with other special needs students. Which really is what is best for her.

I really don't know much about this, but I do know that Lexington School has a special classroom for kids with autism .. but obviously $$$.

I've seen discussions about this related to public schools, but not really followed them. I'm not sure how it's dealt with, or how effectively.

Request a meeting with your schools guidance counselor to have an IEP (Individualized Education Program) set up for your child. That is the start.

A friend of mine is a speech-language pathologist with the local public schools, and works with many elementary school children with autism.

I think services would depend on your child's individual needs - some kids with autism are very verbal, while others have difficulty with communication, and others have additional and/or different needs. So an IEP would be the place to start, then services could be tailored to her individual situation.
