Hi, looking for suggestions for suitable areas of lexington.
Middle aged couple, kids left home, looking for suitable areas. Budget 300 - 400k, no need for schools. Ideally 3-4 bedroom with yard for dogs. Wife likes to shop, I like to run so close to malls and parks preferable. Wife will need relative access to UK medical as nursing there. We do like dining out, cafes.
Hi! Welcome to Lexington!
I would check out South Lexington or the newer Hamburg area if I were you.
The Lexpert (a local real estate agent, who also posts here) has put some videos on Youtube of different areas and neighborhoods in Lexington.(I mean a picture is worth a thousand words right? So imagine what a video is worth, lol).
I tend to give pretty in depth thoughts on locations/neighborhoods.....so let me know if you want new, old, small yard, big yard, etc and I will narrow it down for you.
$300-400k goes a looooong way here!
The good thing about Lexington is that it isn't so big that you are limited to a certain part of town to have access to a variety of restaurants and medical facilities. UK is pretty centrally located, so even in rush hour traffic, It would be no more than 30 minutes from anywhere in Lexington.
My personal favorite spot is the Hamburg area. I live out here. I have all the new (generic) retail 5 minutes away and I am an easy 15 minutes to all the cool local spots downtown!
Crazee Cat Lady picked some good restaurants. Try the Shrimp and Grits if you go to Nick Ryan's.
Oh you also mentioned that you like to run, and would like to be close to Parks, etc.
My husband walks 4 or 5 times a week, at Shillito Park (they have fitness trails) (this is in South Lexington...my favorite place to hike is Raven Run...but there are other parks and trails at various spots....so one should be close to you wherever you move to (and like Lexpert says most things in Lexington are pretty close to one another, or quick to get to (except maybe in rush hour).
If you have the day off, you have to go check out the Red River Gorge, and Natural Bridge - just outside of Lexington.
And Shaker Village!
Not sure of the name of the neighborhood, but there's an older subdivision with very cute stone and brick houses with character very close to both Central Baptist and the UK hospitals on the same side of the road (there's another cluster across Nicholasville Road). The arboretum is very close by for running/walking. Living in Hamburg -- a newer area -- will put you in traffic every work day, and you definitely don't want to mess with Lexington traffic if you can avoid it.
