Thanks for sharing.
I agree.
Although the heading he says move to the midwest where almost all the cities are...Lexington is a Southern city, not a Midwestern one (although I guess we are more Midwest than Buffalo, New York, Fremont, California or Lubbock, Texas, if you are counting proximity.)

I would call Louisville Midwestern (largely because of all the Midwestern transplants there), but Lexington culture is definitely southern. It's considered "the big city" by Eastern Kentucky residents. Also, they seem to have based that quality of life score at least in part on a proposed greenway that hasn't been built yet? It's better than a stick in the eye, but no way in the top ten in the country. SMH!

Well I disagree with everything you've said. Lexington has a lot of Midwestern influence, along with Southern. But Lexington is not Southern at all compared to places like Birmingham, Huntsville, Nashville, Chattanooga etc.

I love the fact that Lexington has the Urban Service Boundary that protects the horse farmland. You won't find anything like that anywhere in America.

Lexington is very Southern, which is not a bad thing. There is some Midwestern influence, but not nearly as much as Louisville and Northern Kentucky.

Lexington is a great place to live. It's a small city with a growing, vibrant downtown with a major university and all it has to offer. Many great schools, public and private. Decent shopping. More and more restaurants. Good healthcare. All four seasons of weather. Mainly a southern feel to the area with beautiful surrounding country. I've always felt its a bit of a hidden gem.

Lexington has a high quality of life and I enjoy visiting because I know the right places to go. However, this ranking doesn't excuse the fact that Lexington becomes rather boring, rather quickly for a city with approximately 305,000 permanent population.

I can also drive through any given dumpy neighborhood in the San Fernando Valley (i.e.: Sylmar, Van Nuys, Northridge, etc.) and find restaurants serving Mexican, sushi, pizza, fusion cuisines, etc. with food quality that blows anything I've ever had in Lexington out of the water. I sincerely think Lexington could improve upon its culinary experience, even taking lessons from nearby Louisville.

I am curious as I have never actually been to Lexington proper, just near it. What about the city makes it seem more southern than Louisville per say? I have heard other folks mention that so I am curious.

I loved the quality of life here compared to the last two cities I lived in Columbus, OH and Cincinnati, OH. Its super safe here, crime is almost non existent compared to Columbus, OH. I love the friendly easy going nature of Kentucky citizens, much more laid back than Ohio. I am doing graduate work at the University of Kentucky so while Lexington might seem boring for some, for me there is plenty to do between schoolwork and UK sporting events. The cost of living is very low compared to Cincinnati and Columbus. It doesn't feel that Southern to me thou, I have lived in Alabama and Florida previously as well and Lexington is nothing like the Deep South in culture. I probably will not stay here after I finish graduate school but I love it for the time being while I am a student. Have a blessed day.
