I've heard that Lexington will be hosting the "horse olympics" in 2010... I know that this is the first time it will be hosted in the U.S., so I'm thinking the city should be preparing itself to make a good impression on all the visitors. I'm planning on moving to Lexington soon and was wondering, is there new construction going on in terms of new buildings and "beautification" projects? I know the event is nowhere nearly as large as the Olympics, but think that the city should receive substantial revitalization after it on the basis of expanded economy, higher home prices, etc. after receiving so much attention. Any thoughts?
The city is trying to prepare, but the only real large construction that I've seen is the widening of Newtown Pike from I-75 to Iron Works Pike. Supposedly the city is going to widen Newtown Pike inside I-75 to six lanes and extend it to Versailles Road/ High Street. I-75 is being "revitalized" which essentially means it's being repaved, they need to widen it to eight lanes because the six we have can get congested at times. I think I saw construction of a new stadium at the horse park, but other than that I haven't seen very much in the way of construction. I'm sure other people know more than I do.

The state is trying to finish getting I-75 widened in Northern Scott and Southern Grant County and I-64 widened btw Shelbyville and Louisville, since all hotel rooms in Lexington will be filled and many will have to commute from Northern Kentucky and Louisville.
I think only one "exit only" lane is being added on SB I-75 from the I-64 split to Newtown Pike, similar to what was added for the Winchester Rd exit. Street lights were also added btw that Newtown Pikr and Paris Pike
I would expect new road construction, but am thinking that the city should receive a boost afterwards... which I think is a good thing for growth... right?

There has been a debate over an upscale hotel (forgot the name) being built at the KY Horse Park. I don't know of the outcome or if they've even settled it yet or not.
At one point Westin was going to be building a resort at the Horse Park, but they have withdrawn over complications from the deal, and the recent news about other possible companies making a deal was all pretty negative.
I'm doing a formal report on the Games and the effects it will have on Kentucky's economy. Can anyone provide information on the road construction of I-75 and I-64, such as which specific company is in charge of the road improvements? I need to interview a business executive for this report, if you have anything i'd appreciate the help.

One of the main reasons for leveling that block of downtown was to prepare for the Games by putting in a 4 star + hotel, restaurants, even living spaces, & you see how that turned out (its a vacant patch of grass now). CentrePointe I believe it was supposed to be called. So they basically leveled a bunch of historic buildings & made businesses relocate for a patch of grass.
I mean, for Lexington to be so gung-ho about horses, they're really dropping the ball on this thing IMO. Doesnt surprise me one bit though, city planning isnt exactly this town's cup of tea.
