Hello to all of you! I have a couple of questions I need help with:
1. Are there old homes for rent that have been converted into apartments? (With the old architecture, wood floors, claw foot tubs...) And if there are, do you know a good contact person/company to get in touch with?
2. How is the tap water? (You'll have to forgive me on this one...I live in a city where Brita filters and water softeners are must-haves. )
There are apartments like you are looking for. They are awesome. I don't know about a company managing them... usually you find a landlord with just one building, and maybe s/he lives in part of it.... I would check the Herald-Leader classified ads (Probably Craigslist will be a good resource as well...) for apartments. That's how I used to find downtown apartments back in the day. A good clue: "close to Transy". That's Transylvania University, and it is surrounded by lovely Victorians.
The tap water is good. It has a good bit of limestone mineral content. Whether that bothers you or pleases you is probably a matter of personal taste. The calcium in it has to be good for your bones and teeth! :O)
1. Anything around Transylvania or near Ashland Park will have lovely historic homes to rent.
2. The tap water here is good, I'm used to the limestone content so it doesn't bother me. Where are you moving from? I have lots of family around Indianapolis, some of which have to use water softeners. You won't need those or Brita filters here .
Thank you for the info! I'll definitely check into the areas mentioned. I miss the old homes very much. Not only are they beautiful and full of character, but hey - if it's still standing after that long, it's good, solid craftsmanship.
timelesschild - to my knowledge I've never had limestone content in my tap water, so I'm not sure what it tastes like. But it doesn't sound bad in the least.
teebird1012 - I'm moving from Tampa, FL. Tampa city water isn't very good at all. The chlorine level is very high, you can sometimes smell it when showering.
