I was wondering how everybody feels about all the realtors directing people to their websites and soliciting clients on this forum. I am a realtor myself, but I am not here to find new clients (Check my posts!)

I thought this forum was about helping people and sharing information!?!

NOTE TO ANYBODY WANTING TO LOOK AT HOUSES: ALL THE AGENT WEBSITES LINK TO A LOCAL MLS (lbar.com for the Lexington area). AGENTS WANT YOU TO USE THEIR WEBSITE BECAUSE ALL THE HOUSES HAVE THEIR CONTACT INFO RATHER THAN THE NAME/# FOR THE LISTING AGENT!

I actually find that it turns me off. When I feel that the post has an advertising slant to it, I don't even finish it. It's like going to a party and when you talk to someone in a friendly way and they try to sell you their cleaning products, etc. Yuck. If I were to buy or sell a house, that is not how I would go about finding my realtor. Thanks for bringing this up!

Real Estate Agents and other businesses will not advertise their services nor solicit business in their posts. Create a free business profile by going to Business Profile Addition and fill out your forum profile instead. Do not include links to your websites, MLS listings, etc. in your posts. Do not try to push the envelope by attempting to hide your intentions. Do not solicit business by PMs. Show your knowledge about the area and help people and you will get leads naturally. Real estate agents should join the usergroup for them here: //www.city-data.com/forum/profi...editusergroups. It will set your user title and add an icon next to your name, so you will get free advertising with your posts.

This is excerpted from the terms of service posting by the administration of hte board. What they are doing in forbidden.

Rules, ethics, and codes of coduct exsist in a free country for a reason. Freedom doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want.

I have noticed a few lately that I found annoying (I don't wish to read advertisements while looking at posts). I have always enjoyed that this forum has been an unbiased place to get really great information from locals.

For this first time this week, I did click the "report post" button on one post (where the agent was blatently refering to their own listings and contact information), but it is still there. Do the city-data folks monitor this?

Maybe we should just call them out on it when it happens. I think it is in poor taste. Stuff like this is why the public likes used car salespeople as much as they do realtors!

Hi all
I just happened upon this thread while seeking out some Lexington info, and of course when I saw a REALTOR thread I had to check it out In many of the forums, a Realtor who posts their email or website will have that cut out by the moderator, and if they continue, they may lose their posting privileges. LEXpert, we have enough to give us a bad name, and the people who blatantly advertise themselves here just fuel the flames...

Does the KY forum(s) have a MOD of your own here? I'll be happy to mention it to our mod on the NH forum. I agree that it's lousy seeing salespeople pushing themselves onto the folks who are just seeking information.

Personally I've gotten so much out of these forums about areas that I'm not familiar with--I feel like the least I can do is post about the areas that I do know well

BMH, it sounds like most of the people really don't like to see advertising posts all the time... It's one thing to be helpful and answer questions, it's another to repeat your website all over the place. I think it's great that the powers that be allow us to advertise our websites if somebody clicks on our name!

I'm more likely to contact a person who is willing to share info. ITA about a used car salesman. I have a great realtor here and she is honest as the day is long. I consider her a friend because I know she is a caring person then a realtor. Unfortunately she can't help me in KY so I'm looking for someone with the same standards.

Keeping realtors off a moving forum is like keeping prostitutes away from a military base... never gonna happen
