If you could only pick one for a drive between Lexington and Frankfort which one would it be, I guess they are both very beautiful but which road better captures the magic of horse country? We can only choose one since it’s part of a one way trip. Thank you!

You can’t go wrong on this decision, but I prefer Old Frankfort Pike. So many beautiful scenic byways in the Bluegrass.

I like Iron Works better. Nalabama is right though, both are beautiful, especially in the Fall as the leaves are turning.

Old Frankfort Pike, and if you have time, turn right at the four-way stop, drive a few short and scenic miles, and visit historic Midway (named by the railroad whose tracks run between each side of "downtown", as the town is midway between Lexington and Frankfort) for lunch and/or a little shopping. Well-worth the slight detour.

I wasn't aware that Ironworks Pike WENT to Frankfort??? The choice for "back roads" is between Old Frankfort Pike and Leestown Road, in which case OFP is vastly more picturesque. Pull over and pet a thoroughbred, stop for ice cream at Wallace Station, or detour into Midway for a charming stroll/meal.
