We adopted a dog from Grant County 2 years ago - we LOVE her - she is a total mess, old, deaf, limping (collapsed vertebrae), incontinent, but every day we feel so blessed that we adopted her (found her on petfinder.com; grant county does the BEST write-ups ...). The inmates were so respectful and professional. Every day we are just so grateful that we found this dog ... it's a story we will always, always tell ... the dog we HAD to adopt based on the write-up, when you just know ...

Anyhow ... (sorry if that was sort of non-sequitur, but ...)

Most of these post are so old and do not reflect the Grant Co animal shelter currently. Now there is an excellent director and staff. They have the support of our Friends of the Shelter group, foster families, rescue groups and transporters. We have pet adoption events monthly at Petsmart in Florence. We are fortunate that all that hard work has resulted in the shelter not being over crowded or needing room for any animal. If you follow us on Face Book or Pet Finders you know we do everything possible to find good homes for all the animals. Grants are applied for to provide spay/neutering at reasonable rates and that has made a tremendous improvement in the number of homeless animals. The animals in & from Grant Co shelter are well feed and given proper medical attention. They are exercised and socialized as much volunteers can provide. To the folks in the first posts "if you are not part of solution, you are part of the problem" Grant Co Friends of the Shelter meet the last Wednesday of every month, please come join us.
