There were so many responses to this thread, that I thought I'd compile a list of local eateries based on everyone's recommendations. To me there's nothing better than supporting local fare, and I'm looking forward to getting started!

Excellent list. Lexington has some nice local places but one of the glaring weaknesses in the scene is the lack of really fine dining as well as myriad ethnic options outside the standards.

Also, it should be known that some of those places are really college drunky hangouts. I am thinking mainly of Cheapside and Two Keys. You also have Bellini's which must be the sorority girl meet up place (hey they are pretty but awfully young). I think Rossi's is the standout on that list for me. I am still looking for standout restaurants in Lexington, and of course I never touch a chain in Lexington or anywhere else I visit.

Anyone who likes reasonable Mexican food should really give El 7 Leguas a try. It is just one mile west of Fayette Mall. I have never had a meal there that wasn't great, and they get the food out almost as fast as Taco Bell

Don't forget the ole Waffle House.

The Penn Station chain does pretty good cheese steaks, my wife who is from Philly approves of them. And they make fresh-cut fries too.

Thanks for this! The original thread had a more "Where can I go on a budget?" feel to it, so these are some great additions.

And the cheesesteak reference --- I LOVE a good cheesesteak, thank you!
