My husband and I have a 3 year old son and are hoping to get in an area in Lexington with a good elementary school.
Our max price range is $135,000 and we were hoping to get over 1500sq ft with this price.
What areas would you suggest? What areas would you avoid?

You will find some good buys in the Garden Springs area. Good schools and nice area.
Actually, ALL of Lexington has changed. For my money, not for the best. However I live in Garden Springs and my area has actually improved in the past 5 years. There are several houses in the area for sale that are in your price range. One is just being ovarhauled.
1500 sq ft, new construction for $135000.00 is possible depending on which side of town. My husband and I had a 1500 sq ft built two years ago for $140,000. which included many upgrades on the North side of town. On the south side of town $135000. won't buy 1500 sq ft.
Take a look at the Southland-Twin Oaks area: three-bedroom ranches and story and a half brick or fieldstone houses, many with fireplaces, garages, large fenced backyards, mature trees, etc., run around $125,000-$150,000. Good public and private schools are in walking distance, as is shopping, churches, and parks. Nice area, very convenient, developed in the 1950s, well-maintained, and very good value for your money.
We live in the Glendover Elementary district and you can probably find a three bedroom for that price if you don't need it to be perfect. Some of the homes on Lowry Lane, for example, are in that price range.
