A lot of the neighborhoods around Hamburg have overpriced housing because of the location. Traffic is also terrible year-round. I think you'd be able to get a much nicer house for the same price in the Harrodsburg Rd. area.

As far as hospitals are concerned...here are a few things you should know.
1. Most surrounding cities have hospitals, but if it's anything serious, they're going to transport you to one in Lexington anyway.
2. The only Level One trauma ER in Lexington is UK (University of Kentucky) hospital, located on S. Limestone.
3. Central Baptist Hospital (Nicholasville Rd.) has a brand new cardiology building/dept/equipment.

For Lexington suburbs, take a look at the Hamburg, Andover, Todds Road areas. This area runs from about exit 108 to exit 110 on I-75, west past Todds Road and over to Richmond Road. This is the boom area in the city, and very safe. Plus, St. Joseph Hospital East is out there, too.

To be close to the heart of Lexington and very close to the best medical facilities, look at Chevy Chase or the area along Cooper Dr., Chinoe Rd., or Tates Creek Rd. just immediately east of the University of Kentucky's campus.

For small towns/suburbs, I think the ones surrounding Lexington are a bit run-down and "rednecky." Never been a fan of them. Although Wilmore, Versailles, and my favorite of Danville (45 min. SW) are pretty nice.
