Wonder if anyone knows if nearby suburbs Paris, Nicholasville or
others are lower in crime than city proper and if medical services
are average or above in those places ?
Also is there good public transportation going into Lex ?
If not, does anyone know if suburbs of Louisville would be
more safe and have better services.
Also anyone know which city seems to be more Liberal ?
Thanks much.

You don't have to go outside of Lexington for low crime rates. Much of the city proper is safe. Parts of the Northside and downtown area are the bad areas, notice I said "parts." But Paris and Nicholasville are both nice, Paris is more horse farm oriented and smaller. Nicholasville is larger and has been growing very fast. Some of the wealthiest neighborhoods in the Lexington Metro area can be found NW of Nicholasville off Harrodsburg Rd. Which means it's very safe.

Medical services are above average; St. Joseph, UK, Central Baptist are all very good hospitals. There's also Samaritan ( owned by UK??), VA Medical Center, Shriners Hospital and St. Joseph East.

Lexington does have LexTran, but I'm not familiar with it. Some like it, some don't. I think the issue is that there's not a lot of bus stops in the city anymore and not as many routes.

Louisville is more Liberal to me.

Lexington doesn't really have any true suburbs, but does have some nice towns surrounding it. Versailles is by far the best town surrounding Lexington. Of course Louisville is three times bigger so its suburbs offer more services and better public transit. Louisville's TARC runs express busses to many of its suburbs. Overall, however, the public transit in KY is pretty poor. Comparing the safety of outlying areas of Lexington and Louisville can be easily done by going to the FBI uniform crime stats, the only OFFICIAL source of crime information. Louisville and Lexington are both safe cities given their size, so I would think their outlying areas would be no different. Also, although Lexington has a very small liberal area around UK's campus, it is substantially more conservative than Louisville. All of Louisville inside I-264 can be considered liberal, and this is a greater population than all of Lexington-Fayette County, which includes many ultra conservative areas especially the neighborhoods off Man O' War. Louisville's most politically and religious conservative areas are in the east and NE part of the county and also the SW part of the county.

I think Lex is a good mix of people. We don't have true suburbs though. I think Lex is pretty safe. Probably safer statistically than other large towns/small cities.

Although Versailles is beautiful, I found Paris to be quaint and somewhat less expensive when we were buying property.

Paris is down right cheap compared to other towns around Lex................but when it is your turn to be the seller, you'll pay for it then!!
