Lexington is home to the number one farmers market in Kentucky! The American Farmland Trust runs a contest each year where customers and loyal followers of farmers markets can vote for their favorite market across America.
The 2010 “America's Favorite Farmers Market” contest ended at midnight on August 31, 2010 and the Bluegrass Farmers' Market, in Lexington, was voted #1 in Kentucky!
By vote count, it also tied for being 20th in the small market class throughout America. Considering there are 23 members of the Bluegrass Farmers' Market, that is quite a feat for such a small market. Lexington should be proud to be the home of the Bluegrass Farmers' Market!
I love the eggs. I never realized until she stated going down there that store bought eggs don't really have much of a taste. I might have to wake up early one Saturday and go with her, but she has kind of spoiled me with letting me sleep in and having a farm fresh omlette ready when I wake up......I sure hope she goes this week!!!!
Hey, LEXpert...the parking is convenient, in fact right there. You could fall out of your car and be right at the market! lol
Seriously, the Bluegrass Farmers' Market really is a great place to shop for local goodies. There's a blog that let's you know what is available each week seen as how it changes due to the fact that it is all homegrown and local. http://www.localharvest.org/blog/29529/
Oops, I go to Lexington Farmer's Market. I went once to BGFM this year and they didn't have what I was looking for. Personally I prefer the downtown market
Hey, the Lexington Farmers' Market is good to if you are looking for a festival type of market. At the Bluegrass Farmers' Market you are guaranteed 100% homegrown or produced....the other market can't say that. That's why you only find in season fruits and vegetables...no resellers are allowed. I think it's the difference between a festival market and a true farmers market. Both of them are good for the community and it depends on what you are looking for.
Oh I love farmer's market I miss u all so much sometimes it was downtown, then I started going to the one across from Wildcat liq. oh I miss u all so much
jane22, I think you are thinking of the festival type market that herbgal mentioned. It's called the Lexington Farmers Market and it is not 100% homegrown guaranteed. I have noticed quite a few items that the actual farmer did not grow for sale at that market.
The farmers market that herbgal was talking about is the Bluegrass Farmers' Market out on Richmond Rd. and they only have real farmers so that is why it is smaller. I can't wait for them to open in the spring.
