My husband and I have lived in Lexington for a year, on campus. It has been wonderful. We have been searching for a new, less expensive apartment (on campus is very expensive) and have found one that we really like and meets our price range. It is in Tarleton Crossings, on Bold Bidder, off of Man o War, in Southeastern Hills.
We drove around the neighborhood and it appears to be modest, but clean and nice. But last night I went on to the crime statistics website and found that there is a lot of crime in that neighborhood. I also found that there was a lot of crime in other neighborhoods that we had thought were nice and had looked at apartments in. Our two main priorities with apartments has been a good price, and a good neighborhood. We found the good price and thought we had found a good neighborhood. What do you think of this neighborhood?
Look in 40503 zip code. It has every price point and is pretty much safe all the way through the whole zip code - and it's still convenient to UK. Good luck!
Lexington, Not an area I'd want to live in. Much depends on your needs and your lifestyle though. Are you out and about, coming and going during late hours? Do you have kids?
I agree with timeless..... 40503 is a pretty safe bet with huge price range.
The thing to remember with the crime map is that a lot of the criminal activity is people cutting through the area. I imagine most of the crime you are seeing is happening on corners or busy roads.
Bold Bidder wouldn't be my personal top pick. I think I would only go there if the location worked really well for you.
I lived off of Bold Bidder for four months, then broke my lease due to the erroneous level of crime in the area. Two B&Es, attempted child molestation/abduction, vandalism being the ones that were the final straw. The price range is great, but I wasn't pleased with the area. I came to Kentucky for less crime, not the same crap as we had in the D.
