Anyone live in or know anyone who lives in Barkley Woods neighborhood in Jessamine County off Harrodsburg?

We went looking over the weekend and I LOVED It (my hubby loved it even more!) It's just what he wants, big lots, but kinda rural-ish. My only issue with it is how far out it is from well, everything! Closest grocery store seems to be the Kroger on Harrodsburg that's almost 8 miles away. Nothing real close by to just "pick something up real quick" or "go grab a quick bite to eat". Plus, I like having my gym close by, kids schools, kids activities/sports etc. I know that it's not really that far, but I'm used to being a city girl and having everything close by to me- and I worry about every day, day to day stuff- being so far out from town.

Also wondering about the schools? How are the Jessamine county schools, and do most people in this and surrounding neighborhoods (Harrods Ridge, etc.) send their kids to public school, or do the mostly go private. if so, which ones?

Also, if anyone DOES live in this neighborhood, I'd love your opinions of just the general feel of it!

Jessamine County is one of the wealthiest counties in the state, so most of the schools are probably good.

A lot of people love those neighborhoods off of Harrodsburg. There might be some that are a little bit closer to the Fayette border, but I have nothing bad to say about Barkley Woods.

I think the schools are OK, but my impression is that the people who buy the big houses opt for private schools. It seems like there is that Nicholasville hub that shouldn't be far (I have sometimes gone to the Home Depot), and then how far is Brannon Crossing from Barkley Woods? I'm not sure. You're mainly far from downtown Lexington, so you'd need to make sure to make the effort to be part of all of the downtown life.

Makesure you use an agent that can tell you what the place is worth if you buy out there. In higher end neighborhoods it is a little harder to accurately determine what the value of the finishes and features are worth. You don't want somebody that is just going to divide the square footage of the comps into their sale prices and then take that number and multiply by how many square feet your house has. That really only works when you're dealing with a neighborhood that has so many of the identical models.

And yes you will be further than you like from anything out there, but that is what most people who buy in those neighborhoods like. I bet you'd get use to it in a short time though.

Thanks for that info.

Also, does anyone know if any future plans (even if it's 5 or so years down the road) for more expansion on Harrodsburg that's a little closer to Barkley Woods or any of those other neighborhoods out there. Seems like with all those neighborhoods popping up, there eventually would be more stuff out there, like grocery stores, restaurants, things to do, etc. but just wondering if anyone has any inside information on future plans for that area.

Also, again, if anyone lives in that neighborhood, I'd love to hear from you!

Bellerive Plaza is close by just south of the Fayette County line and has a Kroger. That's not that far from Barkley Woods.
