I'm interviewing next week for a position with the Laman Library in N. Little Rock. If all goes well, I will likely have to relocate quickly. I'd be moving up from Tallahassee, and I have a few questions.

1) What would be a good neighborhood for a single twentysomething on a budget? Is the area near the library safe? I'd love a short commute to work. I don't need a fancy area, just something quiet, reasonable (~$600 a month), and safe, provided one uses common sense.

2) What are the best parks in the area? Which ones are the most popular?

3) What is the general cost of living? I know it's less than FL, but how much so?

1. I'd recommend trying to find something in Park Hill or the adjoining neighborhood west of JFK (I'm not sure what it's called, maybe it's just part of Lakewood). that is such a convenient area, not only to your work, but shopping, restaurants, and pretty much the rest of town.

2. Burns Park is nearby and has just about anything you could want in a park!

3. I guess it would depend on what part of Florida.

Thanks! That gives me a good place to start looking. I'm driving up for the second interview next week, and if it goes well, I may need to find something quickly.

Park Hill is pretty expensive and working at the library, let's just say your pay won't be all that great.

CALS is the other library system in the area and they pay much better.

I would look into the Sherwood area and maybe apartments in the Lakewood area of NLR.

I agree with Jenni-B, Burns Park is a great park. I try to go there with my dogs and sometimes I go there to ride my bike.

I can't really comment on the cost of living since I'm a college student living mainly off my mom. I have a little part-time job but I couldn't possibly live on my own with that $.

Park Hill can be high for houses but I've seen some duplexes for around $600. and it's such a charming area! Lakewood is also nice, and, yeah, cheaper than Park Hill.

Sherwood's a little far.

I was trying to have a look at the DemGaz ads online. is it me or are they all messed up? I can't view them at all.

I looked at their ads about a week ago but I can't say how they are now.

Sync magazine tends to have rentals listed.

I agree that Sherwood is sort of far out for someone that prefers to live near their work, but I'd definetly consider apartments in Sherwood such as The Links. They are safe, they fall in his price range, and the commute would still only be around 10-15 minutes on most days (since we're talking about 67/167...).

Hey! we are more Floridians moving to LR! we have found a house to rent in sherwood, near the indian head lake, after much advise from many of your posts. thank you!
we like to kayak, and i saw some folks out there boating and fishing. the over head photos make the lake look green w/ algae, but it could be the time of year. is it a good fishing lake?
also we saw a bunch of houses for sale/sold on the zillow site, is this a good area to buy, or are people moving in and out due to the proximity to the base?
