Hello guys,

I am moving to LR in 2 months. Meanehile, I have found this place online that I am interested in. I am traveling to LR at the end of May to see few places but before that, could you tell me if Leawood area , down Markham St., is considered a safe and nice neighborhood? How about the neighborhoods around it?

Thank you so much in advance!

I'm not terribly familiar with the neighborhood on a personal level, but I do have a friend that owns a home over there and likes it. Leawood itself seems like a nice middle class neighborhood to me, and it looked like a pretty safe, well kept area but I can't speak with any authority about the crime level there. There are a couple neighborhoods west (and a few south) of there that have a bit of a reputation, but I don't believe that they are close enough to have a major impact on the Leawood neighborhood. The neighborhoods to the north of there are nice to very nice, and the neighborhoods to the east are more nice looking middle class homes. Good luck with your search.

Leawood proper is a very nice, well maintained, established neighborhood. i lived there many years ago when my child was young; it has a mix of young families as well as retired couples (i liked this b/c someone was always home on the street). it's a very safe neighborhood. the homes adjacent to it on the w. side of mississppi st. are nice as well. some of the neighborhood across mississippi st. approx. from L st. north to cantrell rd. can be a bit dodgy. there are a lot of rentals in the area, along w/some apts. that seem to have quite a bit of crime (burglaries). good luck to you, and welcome to our city.
