I'm moving this week to North Little Rock. I graduated last December with a bachelor's in nursing, and I just passed boards. What are the hospitals like in North Little Rock and Little Rock? I think I'm late to apply to the residencies, and I don't mind working in an LTACH. Will it be extremely difficult to find a nursing job in the area? I would really like to stay in a hospital setting.

I haven't applied to any jobs yet is because I need to have a license for reciprocity in Arkansas. I talked to the Board of Nursing already and was told I couldn't really do anything until I had my license there (I know I can get a temporary license, and I know I can work for 30 days with my Texas license since both are compact states).

I've been looking into a few places that are close to base (boyfriend is stationed there), but he was saying I shouldn't apply to a particular hospital not too far from the base.

Here's a recent thread on nursing:

There is also a hospital in Jacksonville - I guess that's the one your boyfriend referred to. Baptist has a hospital in LR and NLR as well:

Baptist Health Medical Center North Little Rock

There's also Southwest Hospital, but that would be a bit of a hike if you are closer to the air base.

Here's a listing of all hospitals in Arkansas - I don't know where your interest or specialty lies - and UAMS and St. Vincent are doing some sort of partnership. I'm sorry, I don't know all the details but you could Google the merger and probably find out more.

Arkansas Hospitals and Medical Centers • AR

I'm sorry, I can't help you with availability of jobs, but almost all the hospitals have job opening sections on their home page and it appears there is a need. I do wish you well with your search!

Wynnie, the Thread Sam gave you has lots of info and I don't think you will have a problem getting a job. I think the St. Vin and UAMS merger is on hold and I think Southwest is closed.

Looks like it closed last May. I never get out that way and am no longer involved in the medical community and just didn't know. My apologies, OP, but that one was probably never a player for you anyway.

Thanks, Slim.

Wonderful for you . I remember a very long time when my wife was authorized to do that. In fact, she put R.N. after her name before she put Mrs. before her name. Back then a married person could not attend nursing school, and if they got married while in school they got kicked out. So your success has a very special meaning to me too. So come on to The Natural State, and be happy.

I'm proud and happy to say that my R.N. has been taking great care of me for 60 years .
