My boyfriend and I was originally thinking of Fayetteville or somewhere close to it in NWA because people are more liberal and easy going (so I've heard), but there doesn't seem to a good selection of affordable apartments in my price range (395-550) that don't have awful reviews or aren't run by Lindsey Management. Does anyone have any recommendations of places around the Conway area? I just want to move somewhere more liberal and where there's actual things to do without breaking the bank, getting shot at or have to deal with rude landlords who won't give the deposit back. I know with my budget I can't expect much, but it's all we can afford.

Conway is an odd mix of extremely conservative and relatively (by Arkansas standards) liberal. From my house, you can see the Pink House (http://localwiki.net/conway/The_Pink_House), as well as three churches and Central Baptist College. It does have a well known (and highly protested) gay pride parade, but, really, Conway is in general as conservative as any other central Arkansas town. The presence of Hendrix might inject a small amount of liberal thinking, but Hendrix is pretty insular and its ideas don't spread far off campus.

I lived in Fayetteville for a number of years and, if I had to stay in Arkansas, Fayetteville is the place I would want to be. It has a more accepting vibe to it and the mountain scenery can't be beat. Fayetteville also has a far superior night life scene. While Conway seems to be moving in the right direction there (some loosening of draconian blue laws), it is still a long way behind Fayetteville and the rest of the US in general.

If you have the means, I think NWA would probably be a better area for you based on your post.
