Hi! My hubby was just stationed in Little Rock for work. We are from NJ and know nothing about Arkansas. We currently live in Southern NJ which is nothing but Italian farmers (our family too). We are looking for a safe neighborhood with nice homes. We have heard that Maumelle, Bryant and Benton are nice areas. Can anyone shed some light on the real estate market there? Any comments about the area and where to stay away from would be greatly appreciated. I have two small children so safety is our #1 priority. Thanks!

Use the search function, and you should find information on all 3 locations. They are all considered decent areas re: schools, safety, neighborhoods, etc. You really cannot go wrong with any of them, and your selection may very well come down to personal preferences. I know that for various reasons the housing market is not as great in the Maumelle area (for sellers) as it used to be, but at least buyers can find plenty of available housing there now. I have not looked at Bryant's & Benton's availability in years, so hopefully others can comment on them for you.

G'luck!

Most homes in Maumelle are selling at an avg. price per sq. ft. iaround $100 with some homes selling over $110 or even $120/sq.ft. Time on market for most homes in our neighborhood (except ones with some issue be it foreclosure or location) seems to be fairly short for this current market, i.e. couple of months. There may be some good inventory here but from the look of the public domain published data sellers aren't taking too much off their list prices to move the property and buyers haven't stopped coming. Compared to where we moved from in MD (which my wife religiously monitors) Maumelle is selling like hotcakes!

I know what you mean. My home in Delaware was on the market for 2 years and was shown over 150 times!

Can anyone comment on Hurricane Meadows in Benton? I found a home online there that has been on the market for 220 days. Is it a decent development? What is the surrounding area like?

We were on the market for about 6 months and were on the verge of having to pack it in and head back. I was NOT looking forward to that! We took some BIG discounts to move that hunk of c**p. We still came out way ahead. Newer homes here have a much higher quality of construction than the home we had there.

Most people say it's really nice but I've never seen it. I personally do not care for the Benton/Bryant area but from looking at population growth rates, lots of people are ok with it. I think Saline county is dry is it not??

Yeah, it is dry. People prefer Benton/Bryant because of the school district, but the Maumelle side of Pulaski Co. school district isn't bad and they are building a brand new high school in Maumelle. You'll also save gas living in Maumelle is it isn't near as much of a commute as Benton/Bryant. That said, you'll need to go to Little Rock a lot more living in Maumelle. You could also consider West Little Rock, west of I-430. It is very suburban and its where all the chain restaurants and big box retailers are located. There is a new Promenade shopping mall going in in far west Little Rock. West Little Rock is in Pulaski County school district also, but I have heard mixed things about the school district on that side of the river. Many in W Little Rock do private school.

Not necessarily. With a grocery store, Walmart, etc., I find very little reason to go into LR except to drag the kiddo into school. Depends upon what you're interested in, I suppose.
