I was wondering if there are any grocery stores or general stores (like a Dollar General/Walgreens type of place) in the Main St. area of downtown (basically, near the skyscrapers)? I don't think there are any, other than the Farmers Market in the River Market.

I believe the nearest grocery store is the Harvest Foods south of I-630, but that's a bit of a walk.

This is one thing I'd like to see downtown (in the Main Street/skyscrapers area) -- a large grocery store and a couple of nice general stores like Walgreens. But I guess you need more population there first. Having some stores like these would be more convenient for people living downtown, and especially those who'd like to try to get by without a car.

Seems like I remember a Family Dollar on Main Street near Capitol Ave. I'm not sure if it's still there or not, though.

I would try the downtown Argenta area.

Downtown Little Rock Partnership may help.

I think a Walgreens would be perfect downtown. We have 2 in North Little Rock that are less than 2-3 miles apart. Disgusting.

I am not 100% familiar with the trolley but does the trolley go anywhere near Harvest Foods or do any of the buses go by there?

The Station is a grocery store that sells local and/or organic foods. It's on Kavannaugh. The buses can easily take you to Kavannaugh.

Yeah, that Family Dollar on 7th and Main disappeared years ago (more than 4 years ago). Would be nice to have something like that downtown.

Downtown and the inner city is losing population rapidly. Everything is moving out west of I-430. Unfortunately, that means the closing of conveniences in the city. In a disproportionately suburb oriented town like Little Rock, you don't live in the inner city for convenience.

There is a dollar store but it's right by the Harvest Foods (actually it's a City Market now) at 17th and Main. I really don't like it, either; it's completely disorganized with boxes in the aisles everywhere all the time. But it's the closest one to me so I end up there sometimes.

There's also a small general-type store on President Clinton Ave, I think it's down by Willy D's/Bath Junkie? That area anyway. Not actually inside the river market. Or at least there used to be. I'll be down that way later today and I'll try to remember to catch the name and exact location.

That's just not true. Yes, the west side of the city is growing, but downtown is thriving as well.

Well, it's not there anymore. The one in the river market hall is the only one in that area, I guess. And you're right, it's something that's really needed.

I forgot about that one. Thanks, ridicter!

It is more of a gourmet grocer than a general store.
