My friend and I live in Russellville and have been looking for places to chill and hang out since June. There's been no hope for us. Are there any hidden Jazz/R&B and poetry lounges in the Little Rock area. Even a 21+ R&B/Hip Hop lounge/club. Can anyone help?

My sister used to go to a poetry lounge here pretty regularly but I think she told me it was closed? I'll send her a text and ask if it's still open and what it was/is like.

My sister (ever knowledgeable about these things) says "Mediums" is closed now but you can see how you like the "Crush wine bar" on Tuesday nights. There are, of course, some true night clubs but I wouldn't know which to recommend (yeah, this is how I know I'm getting old). According to my neighbor and my sis, who still frequent these places from time to time, the clientele at some of the local establishments can be a li'l rough around the edges.

Go to the River Market district on the weekends. There will be something going on down there.

I don't know of any places that have poetry full time but there are places that have poetry slams or open mics, like Studio Joe (West Little Rock, off Chenal), ACAC (near Kanis Park on Rodney Parham), and Vino's (downtown).

As for jazz, try the Afterthought and Vieux Carre in Hillcrest, or the Capitol Hotel Bar, downtown. Crush is a good suggestion for a lounge-y atmosphere; also there a couple of piano bars in the River Market.

Jazzi's and Elevations on Asher are hip-hop/R&B clubs that are really hopping on weekends.

Cornerstone Pub and Bogie's in NLR/Argenta might also be good places to check out.

Good luck!
