Hello,

I'm EU (french national), speak fluent english (originally anglophone) and i'd like to move to London between may and September 2012.
I am 28, female, with 4 years work experience in telecoms, and available to move to London with 2 months notice..
I have looked online for information on the telecom job market in London, but i can"t find any! I posted my resume on many online sites, such as monster but i haven't got any responses; I don't know anyone who works in the UK in telecoms so i am completely clueless, ...it's getting really frustrating!

My resume is good, and since i am EU, i dont have any visa problems, does anyone have any information on how to get a job in London? Is it because i am abroad (in france?) I am even thinking of quitting my job and looking for a job in London, but i prefer to secure a job first before i quit my current job.

Does anyone have any info? help me out? I appreciate!
Thanks

Maybe you could check out the websites of multi-national companies with offices in both England and France and apply to them directly. Also try to get hold of some telecomms trade periodicals where vacancies are most likely to be advertised. Good luck.

Thanks a lot (I hadn't thought of the companies based in Paris, with branches in London)! I'll do that, and will keep you posted on my progress.

I don't think being foreign will be a barrier in London. We are terrible at languages, so speaking French could be an advantage.

Apparently British Telecom (one of the biggest) is outsourcing most employee positions. Not sure where you would apply for those jobs. Are there specialist employment agencies?

Actually that's how it works in France. All major french telecom operators outsource their jobs, and i know that there are many specialist employment agencies (we call them consulting companies) in france that hire for those telecom jobs (my current consulting company's goal this year is to hire 200 consultants for those jobs!!!).
anyway even without knowing those companies, one just has to put their resume on monster and they'll receive over 10 phone calls per day from those companies; So it is sooo easy to find a telecom job in france.

I thought that it would be the case in England. If i posted my resume on monster, or any other known job online sites, i would find something;but i havent received any calls, i concluded that telecom job searching is must be different in england...;but since i don't have any telecom contacts in london, i wouldnt know..

PS:thanks for the tip on the bilingual advantage, i emphasized it in france and it helped me get many great jobs/projects; i wasnt sure if i could use that in england..thanks

What sort of telecom job are you looking for? If it is engineering then you should try out some of the tech recruiting firms. Also, you could just look up the big telecoms companies in London and check out their websites for hiring notices.
