Hi, I am looking for the safest cities/towns of central Suffolk County to live. That's my top priority right now. I just want the peace of mind knowing that my wife and little daughter will be safe and can go outside for a walk at night or while I'm at work.

Is it possible to get a one bed/one bath apartment in these places, while on a $1800 per month budget?

I'm not too familiar with the area so as much information would be helpful! Thank you.

I'd say most of Suffolk is safe. Towns to avoid (just off the top of my head, there may be others, and also I'm not terribly familiar with western Suffolk) would be Mastic/Shirley, Brentwood, Central Islip, Wyandanch, parts of Huntington/Huntington Station, probably Patchogue (I like it, but it's still in the process of gentrifying, and I don't know that it's really "there" yet), Bellport (technically Bellport has some terrible parts and some really fancy parts, but you won't be able to afford the really fancy parts on your budget), and Riverhead.

On your budget, you shouldn't have a problem finding a one bedroom (or possibly even a two bedroom) in most decent towns in Suffolk. It'd be a lot easier to point you to a specific town/towns if you gave us some constraints - I mean, Montauk's totally safe, but it's probably not going to work for anyone who works anywhere other than the extreme east end, you know?

Thank you. I'm working around the 11749 zip code area. Anywhere within 30 minutes driving or by public transportation would be ideal.

The budget is tough. Towns I would suggest reasonably close to Islandia would be Bohemia, Ronkonkoma, Holbrook, Hauppauge, Nesconset, Oakdale, East Islip, Islip Terrace (but stay closer to East Islip.) Some are very close to the LIRR, others you'll need a station car if you're considering the LIRR. If you head further east, Rocky Point is decent, might give you a little more affordability for your rent budget, but in rush hour will be over 30 mins.

$1800 is a good budget for one bed/one bath, I'd say pretty great to be honest. We did a one bedroom/one bath apartment for $1400/all in East Northport, which is a very safe town. It just depends where you are working and how far you are willing to drive.

Since the OP is/will be working in Islandia, I think we can safely assume that the LIRR is not an important consideration
However, there maybe landlords who won't want to rent a 1-bedroom apartment to a couple with child. With regard to your budget, there'll be a limited supply of inventory in some of the areas mentioned.

I would like something near the LIRR. But I'm willing to drive if necessary.

I've been looking into more established apartment complexes/buildings that are owned by large corporations/companies, just because I would rather deal with them than with a private homeowner. (Correct me if I'm wrong about this).

Thank you for your input so far.

There are a couple of apartments on exit 57 of LIE, on the north side.
$1800 for one bed/bath.... should be more than enough.
If you go further east there are a couple of complexes in ronkonkoma.

My friend lives in Fairfield on Lakeland Ave in Bohemia. She is happy there. Walking distance to some stores, bus stop right there. Lots of families, good school district.
