1. it depends on where you live - cut-off for Nassau if January, for Suffolk it's March (but you can apply now for the following year so you don't forget
2. the amount depends on the school district; it can be well below $1,000 and even more than $1,000. I wouldn't be surprised if the amounts will go down next year... considering the fiscal state of everything including cuts overall
