Anyone ever have a problem with Earwigs (or other insects) infesting your BBQ?

Something is drawing them to my grill. I gave the grill a thorough cleaning the other day. But they keep coming back, and in numbers. I think they are trying to nest in there (nasty). If I move the grill to a different part of the patio, they move as well.

I am going to scrub it down again, and replace all the drip trays and such. But I need to come up with a deterrant.

Thanks in advance.

Odd. I get on occasional spider or wasp nest when I haven't used it for awhile but never earwigs. I do get earwigs in places where water is trapped.

Could rain water be collecting somewhere in your grill and attracting the creatures?

Maybe. But I use a cover on the grill (the Weber vinyl cover). They like to nest inside the vinyl cover, and mainly inside my grill. When you open the doors underneath the grill, they hang out inside the doors. I should take pictures next time. It's nasty. I don't know how to get rid of them.

I never had this problem in my last house. But I see more earwigs around this house in general.

they like the moisture under the cover...your best bet is leave the cover off.

My last house, I would have a crazy amount of ants. Every spring they would come in numbers and raid the inside of my house.

At this house, I dont see many insects inside and definitely no ants. But I do see tons of earwigs on the outside, and they seem to love taking refuge inside my grill.

It certainly sounds like the cover is the issue as it's trapping moisture.

We also have earwigs in our grill. My wife said there was only one way to insure that they don't come back....leave the grill on.

Perhaps store moth balls on one of the racks under the grill under the cover for a bit? The smell might make them move elsewhere. I keep moth balls in my shed to keep out the bugs, and it seems to work in there.
