I am looking to do a short, cheap trip to explore Montauk and Eastern LI.
I'll need to do it likely on a Friday or Saturday later this month and will need to spend 1 night.
I am having a hard time finding a place and wanted to ask for some help doing so.
It seems everything is booked OR requires a 2-4 night stay..OR is in Riverhead or further.
I want to check out Montauk Point and the Ocean, and just need a place to stay for one night.
I'm going with a buddy...so just a motel if that is fine for one night.
Any suggestions of which places (or towns) to look at which will still have availability for a night for say the weekend of the 23rd or 30th?
Short, yes! Cheap, NO! Most hotels/Motels in and around Montauk require a three-day stay in season. There are a few cheap hotels (Atlantic, Bentley, Capri) but I wouldn't rec them to my enemies!
We stay at the Ocean Beach Resort. Those are co-ops and some are privately owned. Sometimes they have openings because someone had to back out at the last minute. You may get lucky even with a one night stay. Phone#: 631-668-4000 We've stayed there quite a few times and it's right on the ocean. Very clean. I hope it works out for you
Thanks.
I guess I should also ask...for a mid 20s person...is there any good nightlife in the area?
What about things to do?
Not much nightlife. I don't remember if the little movie theater is still open. If you want nightlife, then you'll have to head west to the hamptons. In Montauk, at night, a lot of people make a fire on the beach and roast marshmallows and smores. That's nightlife Montauk style.
We stayed there in the summer of 2005 and it was a nightmare! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.
Our toilet broke during the night (probably at about 11 PM) and I called an emergency number, someone picked up the phone and said they'd be right over and...NEVER CAME! We waited until the following morning and I reported it to the front desk. We went out for breakfast while they were supposed to fix it and came back to a totally different toilet...NOT NEW...just something that was used that they had on hand or something. It was terrible the night we didn't have a toilet and there were no other toilets on the hotel's site except for our neighbors but I wouldn't dare ask them if we could use theirs.
