We are looking for a middle class community with above par public schools. The value system and spirit of the community are very important to us. We would like a healthy mix of race and culture if possible. Please don't recommend VS or Baldwin. Preferably Nassau in a 500m range.
In case you are unfamiliar with the local geography
whatsay, in case you are unfamiliar with the local geography, I've sent you an explanation of the very, very confusing geography of "Lawn Guyland" as a DM (Direct Message).

I don't think you will find that in Nassau or even Suffolk. As you know, LI is still highly segregated. Don't ask me why. It is what it is, at least for now.
I think North Carolina or Texas would definitely fit your needs, as there is a healthy mix of races and cultures in the middle-class neighborhoods! I highly recommend you check on the NC or TX forums for more information! Good luck!
You can find a few homes in that price range in Syosset (Syosset SD). You can find ethnic variety there which brings with it a mix of culture... Don't think you'll find many who'll argue the merit of the SD
(Of course it depends on what "race(s)" you're referring to...)

The best example I can give for healthy would be Valley Stream but I am not interested in a large village or paying village taxes for that matter.
The minority population seems to be blended nicely between AA, asian, hispanic and indian. At least that is what I see reflected in the parks and amenities I have visited.
Whatsay, it is not always true that property located in villages pay more property tax than would a similar property in an adjoining hamlet within the same town that the village is located. Many times, being in a village offers protection from certain town taxes that add up to more than the village taxes, meaning that a property in a village pays less property tax than does a similar property in a hamlet within the same town as the village is located.

First, you need to be aware that the majority of places with a "Massapequa, NY 11758" mailing address (5,128 acres) are NOT in the Hamlet of Massapequa (2,345 acres).
Second, complicating an already confusing geographic situation, the "Massapequa, NY 11758" ZIP Code postal zone is a bifurcated postal zone, with two noncontiguous areas on the eastside and westside of the "Massapequa Park, NY 11762" ZIP Code postal zone.

Massapequa is one of those many villages and hamlets on Long Island where the majority of the places with the community name as part of their mailing address are not in the hamlet: places that have a "Massapequa, NY 11758" mailing address that are not in the Hamlet of Massapequa are in the Hamlet of East Massapequa, the Hamlet of North Massapequa and the Hamlet of Plainedge.
