Desperately need recommendations for a tile designer to help us choose tile for our new house. We haven't a clue and the task is overwhelming. If you know of a knowledgeable person please pass their name along.
thanks!
We got our tile at Cynthia Rees in HUntington (maybe Huntington Station - Walter?) - it's next to Peter Andrews on Jericho. They are a smaller family owned shop so you can get more personalized service. i found them more helpful than the bigger places.
If you can narrow down your choices and find a way to do some deciding yourself I got the best prices at Lowe's - the one in Westbury is nice. I got tumbled marble for a backsplash there for way less than half what it was anywhere else. The problem with going into a tile store totally lost is you may not end up with something you like in the end. Be careful.
I also found cynthia reese in huntington to be helpful. Some good deals on ceramic tiles at Lowes and HD. That said, be really careful with the advice given you by the chain stores. ALL of them tried selling me the pre-mix "thinset" and grout for my shower stall. When I checked it out online, I realized that this stuff isn't "thinset mortar" at all, but just a mastic with sand in it. It has no cement (otherwise it would harden in the tub". So, this stuff isn't water proof and will likely fail in a wet location. Yet, three different reps at lowes and HD pushed it. I'd say, make sure you go with the dry thinset you need to mix (and contains portland cement).
