That's funny, a couple of years ago didn't a couple of men get hunted down after they left a pizza joint on Crossbay Blvd, trying to get help for their car which was broken down on the Belt Pkwy. If I remember correctly they were chased back to their car but one didn't make it. I'd hardly call this a safe area a lot of the mafia and their lowlife goons reside in Howard Beach.

Take the Goodfellas dvd out of the dvd player once in awhile. Would you rather stop in East NY? At least in Howard Beach you can get something to eat and use a restroom if you need to.

In that mind set you should feel free to stop anywhere in the JFK area. Plenty of fast food restaurrants and gas stations along that part of the Belt Pkwy. Often times I have waited for flights to come in at the Burger King off the Belt and the ramp leading to the JFK Xpswy. It's far safer than stopping in Howard Beach which has made a reputation of not welcoming outsiders.
BTW, I've never seen Goodfellas, what I wrote was through actual events of the Crossbay Ave. area. I haven't heard of anyone being hunted down after stopping in the Golden Krust.
They recently opened a big box store shopping center in ENY off the Belt Pkwy. A person like myself who isn't afraid of black people might stop there to shop and might find a great ethnic restaurant to dine in.

Best route is George Washington Bridge lower bridge to the Harlem River Drive to the Triboro / RFK Bridge to the Grand Central Parkway which turns into the Northern State Parkway.. just take it to the end and it runs right into Commack.
The Cross Bronx is always a mess and the LIE is horrible at times too. The Belt Parkway / Southern State is also very hit or miss.
I agree and as I said in my first post after the Kings Plaza exit, the average traveller shouldn't get off the Belt Pkwy. Wait until you reach Nassau County. For myself I'm more outgoing and don't feel anxiety when I'm the only pale face in the crowd. Maybe the day I get raped, stabbed, mugged or shot my attitude will change. BTW, one of those things has happened to me. I was mugged in Wantagh after leaving a bar heading to the train station. My friend and I were also jumped after crossing the Ponquogue bridge in Hampton Bays by a group of rowdy white guys in the middle of the day. I haven't any experience like that while walking along 125th st. in Harlem.

Then by all means swing by the BJ's in that "big box" shopping center on a sat. I can PROMISE you that if you're as pale as me and you don't willingly cede you place in line to someone not as pale there will be an issue. Has happened to me MANY a time.

Interesting route but isn't that going out of your way and you still have to deal wit the NJ turnpike and GWB traffic.

Why drive all the way north to come back south again? VNB to Belt east to SSP East to Sagtakos North. Done and done.
